Stuff Piles Up

© 2003 Midnight Island Music

Matter approaching the speed of light
Sorrow not out of mind, just out of sight
The rising tide pressing against the shore
Forks jammed into the kitchen drawer

Toys falling down the stairs onto the landing
Steering columns collapsing, air bags expanding
Old bones lying in uncut grass
A long line of cars unable to pass

Pitching machines in batting cages
Yesterday's newspapers' unread pages
Water backed up in a backed up drain
The train at the crossing and the second train

Cold rolled steel gone out of control
The string of contenders for the queen of soul
Cyclists in waves crashing out on the tour
Fire on the wrong side of an unopened door

Leftover chinese in plastic containers
Votes pro and con with the usual abstainers
Street cars waiting for the line to be cleared
Hills a little steeper than the semis are geared

Golf balls aimed at the guy on the tractor
Various events at the local reactor
A coffee machine overflowing the cup
I can't get used to how stuff piles up
